(Area Overview) Forest of Dark

[The Phantom God]

One can feel magic in the air as they enter this dimly lit forest, the overhead sun perpetually shut out by a thick canopy of foliage provided by the overhanging trees. One would perhaps be wise to bring a lamp, as the risk of getting seriously lost is very real in this forest. The forest itself is in a perpetual state of partial flooding with the forest floor seamlessly transitioning into swampland as you meander closer to the many ponds and rivers that dot its landscape. One would do well to avoid wading in too deep as there may just be unseen monsters hiding below the surface such as giant snakes or carnivorous fish, two things your average adventurer would be very unlucky to encounter. Deep within the forest there is said to be a tribe of rather friendly and rowdy elves who stand guard over an item called the orb of darkness, which seems to hold a strange yet ambiguous sway over the forest's atmosphere and growth. It is said that the forest would wither and its inhabitants suffer from nightmares if it were ever removed or say, switched with a misleadingly similar but very different orb.

Sub-Locations

Shady Well

This rather out-of-place well in the middle of the forest was likely once related to Satan's Villa. However, it now sits abandoned and partially drained--two facts that are likely related. This isn't to say that the well is entirely without points of interest though. It seems that the well may have breached an underwater cave system, most of which is completely flooded to the point of much of the well being seemingly impossible to explore without some method of preventing oneself from drowning without oxygen. Worse yet, the well is haunted by territorial mermaids and spectral puyos who make a habit of stinging their victims. Plant life has begun to flourish in the water, with sea cucumbers, in particular, being particularly prevalent. A rather friendly giant catfish that appears to have gotten itself trapped in the well seems to enjoy feeding on them.

Satan's Villa

An old-fashioned palace of a villa consisting of rather luxurious looking rooms laid out along almost maze-like hallways. Key features include a secret room for the "Satan Fan Club" hidden behind an enormous portrait of his truly, a large banquet room with a stage for shows to be put on, numerous bedrooms, plenty ofreading material that is oddly Satan-centric and a disturbingly large dungeon. While this villa would not normally be considered dangerous, it is rather common to see Satan's minions standing guard around the place as he uses it as his summer home. They tend to demand respect from anyone attempting to visit and may even refuse to let visitors in if Satan isn't home to guard his privacy. His favorite minion for taking care of the villa is, of course, Draco Centauros. However, a myriad of fake carbuncles can be found playing in the area as well.
